Boaters Safety in MI?
So I'm 16, just moved onto a lake with family, and got a boat for Christmas. Do I have to take Boaters Safety to operate it on the lake? Even if I don't need it for the boat, would it be smart to invest in the classes, just to be safe, especially if I go to a friends house who may have a Jet Ski (PWC) And how difficult are the classes?
Answer:
Those 16 years of age or older may operate any boat on the waters of Michigan, except a PWC.
Those 14 years of age or older:
1. And born after December 31, 1978, may operate a PWC legally only if they have obtained a boating safety certificate.
2. And born on or before December 31, 1978, may operate a PWC legally without restrictions.
I would suggest to take a boaters safety course, the more you know the safer you will be and he more you will enjoy boating.
