Frequently Asked Questions...
United States Navy Mark 12 Mod 0/1 Special Purpose Rifle?
Is it a good rifle what experiences anyone has?
Answer:
It has it's good and bad qualities. Reliable, effective, good glass. Much better than the m110 when it comes to the reliability of the barrel. It's heavier than I think it needs to be. Any weight saved on the ammo is lost on the rifle. It lacks the punch at long range and penetration of a bigger round, such as the m110.
I ended up going with two loads. My "inside voice" was my trusty M4 w/ an eotech and a can. My "outside voice" was a custom M14 with a Millet 1-4x scope and couple of small sections of rail for a grip-pod, a light and a PEQ. Loaded it with M993 AP. It consistently shot "minute-of-badguy" as far as I could shoot. It was my piece for almost everything, especially in Afghanistan.
As to the Mk12... if it was all there was available in the arms room for that range-band, and I knew there was a steady supply of match ammo for it and I was going to have lots of other people around, I might take it.
